Fire Incident at Surat's Sarthana Area

Fire caused by short-circuit at Takshashila Complex

On 24th May, 2019 in Sarthana Area at Surat, a short-circuit took place at the ground floor of Takshashila Complex which led to burning of wires and circuits first and then eventually the small compartment of main power unit was on fire. The fire had spread to the second floor. The third floor also caught fire and the dome of the Complex also caught fire which was attached to the fourth floor by a steel and wooden staircase. At the fourth floor there were running coaching classes in which there were approximately 30-45 students and teaching staff also. The fire spread more quickly because of the tires that were used as benches in the classes.

The Teachers also showed cruelty and inhuman behaviour by escaping the classes without informing the students. This was the biggest mistake of the staff. Then the students realised that the whole coaching centre was on fire. They looked outside and saw people crowding dowside. The students decided to jump from the fourth floor and the crowd tried to catch them. Some of the students were heavily injured and some of them were quite well. Also, many students were trapped in the classes that were unaware of the fire. The reports say that 19 students died at the incident and 2 more died in the hospitals whose condition was very serious. The fire brigade was also late due to late action, lately informed by victims and people and traffic issues.

The owner and the main teacher of the coaching classes was also arrested and jailed for not installing fire safety in the coaching classes. In some point of view, the electric power that was being supplied to the complex was also a cause for the deaths of 22 children that were aged between 16-22 years because if the fire had already started the electricity providers should shut the electricity flow in the area to stop the fire from spreading more.

At last, when the students were jumping from the gap from fourth floor, a brave man risked his life saving two girls successfully from the edge of the third floor. Below are some photos of the hero.

R.I.P to the children who died at the incident

It is my request that after reading this please stay quiet for 5 minutes and pray to God that the children find peace in heaven and well-being of their family.
